EDI will always be an important topic of conversation within the workplace.

Our Operations Manager, Emma Wilson, attended 2024's Diversity Mark Summit which is an event that takes place bringing more than 300 businesses and diversity leaders together at the beautiful Titanic Belfast.

It is NI's largest equality, diversity, and inclusion conference and Emma came away with a lot of key takeaways.

"Establishing safe spaces for colleagues is essential for nurturing a sense of belonging within the workplace," Emma explains. "This can take the form of staff networks or employee resource groups, which provide an environment where individuals feel supported and empowered to be themselves.

When asked about the approach to Equality, Diversity, and Inclusion (EDI) in the workplace, Emma emphasises that it’s a process that requires thoughtful consideration. "EDI isn’t something to rush into, it’s important to take it one step at a time. There’s real value in taking the time to reflect on how we can make impactful changes that are sustainable and meaningful."

The conversation naturally turned to leadership, and Emma was quick to note that we all play a role. "We are all leaders when it comes to ensuring EDI, whether at work or in our personal lives. Every action we take can influence positive change. We can't wait for someone else to act, we each have the power to make a difference."

The importance of EDI in the workplace cannot be overstated. What tips would you give to employers trying to improve on their Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion in the work place?
