👨💼 A change in leadership...
Last Month Neil McKibbin acquired 100% of VANRATH. VANRATH was established in 2000 by Wayne Sullivan as a boutique recruitment business, initially focussing on recruitment within the Finance sector.
In the years that followed, the business grew significantly to become Northern Ireland’s leading professional recruitment business, and expanded our recruitment services across Tech, HR and Engineering.
In 2018 Neil McKibbin, a well-established local businessman and long- standing friend of Wayne’s, acquired a 50% share in VANRATH. Since then the business has continued to thrive, with revenues of £22m in 2023, and an expansion of our services into other business sectors.
After more than 20 years Wayne has now decided to pursue other priorities and interests with Neil now taking full ownership of the business. Barbara McKiernan, supported by the senior management team, will continue with the day-to-day running of the business, with Neil providing his support to the team.
We wish Wayne the very best with all his future endeavours, and are very positive that this change in ownership will allow the business to go from strength to strength.
👋 Welcoming New Team Members
We welcomed 2 new team members to VANRATH! Suzanne Lowry and Leanne Garrett! Suzanne has joined us to head up the Life Sciences desk and Leanne has joined our Business Support team covering a wide range of areas within that sector! Both have only been here a few weeks and are absolutely smashing it 💥 Excited to see how VANRATH can nurture their recruitment journey and in turn how we can learn and benefit from their combined skillsets! Welcome to the team!
💻 There's always a Tech event going on somewhere in Northern Ireland!
March was a busy time for our tech team!
Kicking things off we had the entire Tech Team attending BelTech over 2 days where they were subject to some cutting edge IT discussions throughout. Belfast has emerged as a vibrant hub for start-ups and technology giants alike and so we also grabbed the opportunity to man a stand where out IT team could chat with our future Tech experts about the world of Tech employment!
The following week the team attended the Digital DNA awards and had a fantastic time. Once again, well done to all of the winners, runner-ups, and nominees. Crackin' achievements all around.
This International Women's Day, we shone the spotlight on the remarkable women who contribute their talent, passion, and expertise to VANRATH every day. Within every department, these ladies bring dedication, innovation, and a unique perspective to everything they do. Their contributions not only help shape our company culture but also drive our success within the world of recruitment. Once again, to each and every one of our female colleagues: thank you for your unwavering commitment, your passion, and your resilience. Let's continue to champion gender equality, diversity, and inclusion not just today, but every day. Women in Business Awards
VANRATH was invited by IQ & Co to attend the Women in Business Awards which felt like a night out with friends as we celebrated women across Northern Ireland. Our MD, Barbara McKiernan, joined the Women in Business network 2 years ago and since has met so many inspirational women. These events are always boast an unrivalled atmosphere of support!
IOD Conference 2024
We want to take some time to reflect on the IOD conference which celebrated Independent Women's Day and followed the theme: "In future there will be no female leaders, just leaders".
Leadership is driven by culture and inclusive leadership is a superpower. To follow Marie Gleeson's advice:
Lead with “We will be successful when…”
We ALL need to be driven by the same objective.
Clarity and communication are key.

KEY CAREER STATS FROM THIS MONTH:
The Quit-Tok TikTok Trend where people are filming their resignations and dismissals: 41% believed it highlighted workplace issues, 20% believed it to be unprofessional and harmful, and 37% thought it was okay depending on the situation
We asked if leadership should tailor policies to accommodate flexible working arrangements: 84% said yes, 2% said no, 14% said that it depends, and 1% said they had another opinion but didn't disclose.
In every workplace, there will be challenges and conflicts that arise. So we asked our network what people though the most effective way for a workplace to address and resolve issues was: 59% believed encouraging open communication was the way to go, 31% said it was important to implement clear procedures, 9% said it could be solved with conflict resolution training and 1% had another opinion but did not disclose.
Are you expecting a pay rise soon? Apparently, a lot of our network aren't with 49% saying they AREN'T expecting one within the next 6 months, but a close 48% said they WERE expecting one, and 3% said they had another opinion but did not disclose.
