Senior Platform Operations Engineer

Job Description

The Senior Platform Operations Engineer will be a key member of the DevOps Team, responsible for building and supporting the core infrastructure of our multi-award winning client's platform services and products. This role involves ensuring the continuous and smooth operation of the platform, which handles a large volume of traffic.

The ideal candidate for this role will move into a strategic technical position within a new team in the business in order to help our client progress further in to European markets. You will ideally be coming from a strong infrastructure focussed technical background and have experience in transitioning multiple platforms in to more modern infrastructure.

Key responsibilities:

  • Contributing to the uninterrupted operation of the platform.
  • Utilising Amazon Web Services to build highly available services.
  • Developing infrastructure as code using tools such as Terraform.
  • Creating configuration management, automation, and deployment pipelines using tools like Ansible.
  • Collaborating closely with the Cyber Security Team to maintain and enhance platform security.
  • Participating in the GitHub Pull Request-centered development pipeline to continuously deliver value to customers.
  • Monitoring platform health using tools such as Datadog and Splunk.
  • Advocating for quality code and engineering practices that enable Continuous Delivery.
  • Participating in a sustainable on-call schedule.

Qualifications

  • 5 or more years of experience in Software Engineering, operating web applications in a Site Reliability Engineering, Web Operations, or Cloud Engineering capacity.
  • Production experience with AWS services, including EC2, ECS, RDS, IAM.
  • Strong foundation in modern infrastructure practices with the ability to deploy and maintain scalable, secure infrastructure.
  • Proficiency in writing quality, documented, modular, maintainable, secure, and testable infrastructure automation.
  • Team-oriented attitude with a strong intellectual curiosity.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
