Overview:

Are you a skilled Planning Assistant looking to advance your career in the public sector? Our client, a leading government organization, is seeking a dedicated professional to join their Planning and Economic Development team. This role is crucial in supporting the delivery of high-quality planning services, including local development plans, planning applications, and enforcement actions.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assist in Local Development Planning: Conduct research, site surveys, and data analysis to contribute to the preparation of the Local Development Plan.
  • Planning Application Validation: Review and validate planning applications and other development management submissions, ensuring accuracy and compliance.
  • Planning Enforcement and Monitoring: Monitor planning decisions and investigate breaches of planning control, representing the council in enforcement proceedings.
  • Team Support and Leadership: Provide support to team members and deputize for the Planning Officer as needed to ensure the department meets its objectives.
  • Report Preparation and Consultation: Prepare detailed reports, technical papers, and evidence for committees, public inquiries, and legal proceedings.
  • Site Inspections and Stakeholder Engagement: Participate in site inspections and consultations across the Borough, providing expert planning advice to stakeholders.
  • Utilize Planning Software and Tools: Effectively use the Council's IT systems and GIS software for data management and communication.

Essential Criteria:

  • HNC/HND or equivalent in Planning, Surveying, Cartography, or a related field; or significant experience in a planning role.
  • Proven experience in regional or urban planning.
  • Strong organizational and project management skills with the ability to handle multiple planning tasks simultaneously.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, particularly in the context of planning and development.
  • A full, clean driving license or access to suitable transport for site visits.

Desirable Criteria:

  • Degree in a recognized planning qualification, such as Town and Country Planning or Urban Planning.
  • Membership in a professional body such as the Royal Town Planning Institute (RTPI).
  • Previous experience working in a public sector planning environment.
