About the Role:
We are seeking a skilled and dedicated Mechanic to join our client's team in Belfast, specialising in the maintenance, repair, and inspection of port equipment. This role is crucial to ensuring the smooth operation of all mobile port machinery, including tug-masters, forklifts, and company vehicles. The successful candidate will play a key part in maintaining high safety and performance standards within the terminal.
This role is carried out on a rotating shift pattern, so all applicants must be available to work shifts.
Key Duties:

  • Perform routine maintenance and repairs on all mobile port equipment, such as tug-masters, forklifts, and other company vehicles.
  • Conduct regular servicing as per manufacturer guidelines, maintaining detailed records of all services performed.
  • Respond to equipment breakdowns both during and outside of normal working hours, whether within the terminal or on board vessels.
  • Carry out repairs on customer trailers that have become faulty during sea transit or have been damaged within the port, ensuring they can be safely removed from the terminal.
  • Undertake general maintenance tasks around the terminal, applying your expertise to ensure operational efficiency.
  • Maintain accurate maintenance records for all mobile port equipment to facilitate performance and cost analysis.
  • Follow safe working practices during all maintenance operations, adhering to terminal health and safety regulations.
  • Ensure compliance with any quality systems operated by the company in your area of responsibility.
  • Assist with cleanup operations when fluids leak from vehicles operating on company vessels.

Qualifications:

  • Extensive mechanical knowledge with technical proficiency in maintaining and repairing heavy machinery.
  • Strong problem-solving and critical thinking abilities.
  • Proficient diagnostic skills to identify and address mechanical issues.
  • Basic computer skills for record-keeping and communication.
