About the Role:

VANRATH are partnering with a prominent local authority to recruit a House Officer to join their Arts and Culture team. This is a fantastic opportunity for an experienced events or facilities professional to play a pivotal role in the delivery of cultural and conferencing programmes across some of Northern Ireland's leading public venues.

The House Officer will take responsibility for day-to-day operations across theatre and conference spaces, managing staffing rotas, overseeing event delivery, and ensuring high standards of customer service and compliance. This is a hands-on role that blends operational management with team leadership and public engagement.


The Ideal Candidate:

  • Minimum of 2 years' recent supervisory experience in a customer-facing setting (e.g. arts, leisure, theatre, conferencing or events).
    *Consideration will be given to candidates with 3+ years' relevant experience in lieu of academic qualifications.
  • 5 GCSEs (A-C), including English and Maths.
  • Demonstrable understanding of health and safety legislation in public venues.
  • Excellent organisational skills, with the ability to coordinate large teams and complex events.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal abilities, particularly in high-pressure situations.
  • Willingness to work flexible shifts across venues, including evenings and weekends as required.

Desirable Criteria:

  • Degree-level qualification in a relevant discipline.
  • Experience using booking or event management systems.
  • Experience managing a theatre or public-facing conference venue.

What You'll Be Doing:

  • Managing cultural and conference facilities for performances, civic events and commercial hires.
  • Leading on site setups, risk assessments, health & safety processes and customer liaison.
  • Overseeing rotas for cleaners and front-of-house/event staff.
  • Serving as Duty Officer during key events and performances.
  • Acting as the main contact for clients and liaising with internal teams and contractors to ensure high-quality service delivery.
  • Supporting stock control, budgeting, financial reconciliation and staff training.
  • Deputising for senior managers across arts and conferencing operations
