Financial Reporting Accountant

VANRATH are delighted to recruiting for a highly motivated and skilled Financial Reporting Accountant to join a dynamic finance team in the public sector. This is an exciting opportunity to contribute to the financial integrity and reporting standards of a prominent public sector organisation, where the successful candidate can work out of any one of their offices in NI.

The ideal candidate will have a strong background in financial reporting, a deep understanding of public sector financial regulations, and the ability to manage a range of financial processes efficiently and effectively. This role offers a hybrid working arrangement, allowing the flexibility of working from home one day per week.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Financial Reporting & Analysis:

    • Prepare accurate and timely monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements in accordance with relevant public sector accounting standards

    • Ensure compliance with financial regulations and accounting policies.

    • Provide detailed analysis of financial performance, including variance analysis, budgeting, and forecasting.

  • Budgeting & Forecasting:

    • Support the preparation of annual budgets and periodic forecasts for the organisation.

    • Monitor performance against budget and provide recommendations for improving financial performance.

  • Compliance & Governance:

    • Ensure adherence to financial reporting regulations, policies, and standards, including compliance with relevant public sector legislation.

    • Assist in audits and liaise with external auditors to ensure timely and accurate audits.

Essential Qualifications & Experience:

  • ACA, ACCA, CIMA, or equivalent qualification in Accounting or Finance.

  • At least 3 years of experience in financial reporting, accounting, or a related field, ideally within the public sector or a regulated environment.

  • Strong knowledge of public sector accounting standards and financial regulations.

  • Experience preparing financial statements, budgets, forecasts, and management reports.

  • Excellent understanding of financial control frameworks, including audit processes.

  • Proficiency in financial software and Excel (advanced skills are a must).
