VANRATH are working with a long-established and growing accountancy practice based in South Down, who are seeking to recruit an experienced Accounting Technician to join their close-knit team. This is a key hire for the firm, and an ideal opportunity for someone who enjoys working independently and confidently with a varied client portfolio.
You'll be joining a small, supportive team with a loyal client base across a range of industries including retail, trades, sole traders, and small limited companies. The successful candidate must come from a practice background and be capable of preparing a full set of accounts independently, while also engaging with clients in a professional and personable manner.


🔍 The Role


This role is suited to someone who is confident working autonomously and has solid, hands-on experience across a range of accountancy duties in a practice environment.
Key Responsibilities:

  • Prepare full sets of accounts for sole traders, partnerships, and limited companies
  • Complete VAT returns and assist with bookkeeping where required
  • Liaise directly with clients to gather records, resolve queries, and provide updates
  • Ensure compliance with current accounting standards and HMRC requirements
  • Support with tax computations and year-end processes
  • Use cloud-based accounting systems such as Xero, Sage, and QuickBooks

What We're Looking For

  • Qualified Accounting Technician (ATI) or equivalent with significant practice experience
  • Proven ability to prepare full accounts independently
  • Strong understanding of UK accounting and VAT requirements for SMEs
  • Confident in dealing directly with clients in a friendly and professional manner
  • Excellent organisational and communication skills
  • Proficient in the use of cloud-based software and Excel
