We are recruiting an Environmental Health Officer for our public sector client in Belfast, focused on enhancing health and quality of life through targeted environmental health services. This role will involve enforcement, educational, and advisory work to support a safe and healthy community.
Key Responsibilities:
- Health Improvement: Conduct enforcement, investigation, and advisory duties to promote health standards and address community needs.
- Project Management: Manage and prioritize daily tasks to meet deadlines, contribute to team objectives, and participate in structured professional development.
- Community and Interagency Collaboration: Work with diverse organizations to achieve service goals, enhance community well-being, and support various public health initiatives.
- Reporting and Analysis: Provide reports, maintain records, and keep up-to-date with current industry practices and legislation.
Essential Criteria:
- Qualifications: Bachelor's or Master's degree in Environmental Health, accredited by the Chartered Institute of Environmental Health, or an equivalent qualification.
- Certification: Registered with the Environmental Health Officers' Registration Board (EHORB) or Chartered Institute of Environmental Health as an Environmental Health Practitioner (EHP), or willingness to complete this within 18 months.
- Driver's License: Full, current driving license for Northern Ireland and access to a vehicle for official duties.
Skills and Attributes:
- Communication and Customer Service: Strong verbal and written skills, able to communicate effectively with the public and business owners.
- Technical Proficiency: Understanding of environmental health issues and experience with standard office and specialized software.
- Work Planning: Ability to independently manage workload and prioritize tasks effectively.
- Decision-Making: Sound judgment to determine when to act independently or seek guidance from senior staff.
Additional Information:
Preference may be given to candidates with current EHORB or Chartered Institute registration. Flexibility for occasional after-hours coverage, such as the nighttime noise service, may be required.
