Get to know Brett Wilson, our Senior Recruitment Consultant who specialises in recruiting marketing professionals across the Northern Ireland market.
Today, we sat down with one of our newest team member Brett so you can find out more about him and how he can help with your next career move or hire in HR!
What did you do before working in recruitment?
Before joining VANRATH, I worked in Digital Marketing – BDM & Sales but moving into recruitment I found I could combine my love for connecting with people and helping them find their perfect career fit.
What motivated you to pursue a career in recruitment and which specific area and roles do you specialise in now?
I've always been fascinated by the power of matching talented individuals with great opportunities. It's incredibly rewarding to witness someone's career flourish because they found the right role. I focus on a variety of HR areas such as HR Generalists, HR Recruitment/Talent, L&D and OD.
What do you enjoy most about working in the HR recruitment industry?
What I love most about the HR recruitment industry is the people! I enjoy interacting with candidates and clients, hearing their stories, and understanding their unique needs. It is very rewarding to build relationships and making a positive impact on someone's career journey.
What are your favourite aspects of this field, and how do you stay up-to-date with the latest trends and market insights?
One of my favourite aspects of this field is the fast-paced nature of recruitment. No two days are the same! I enjoy the challenge of staying ahead of the curve and adapting to the ever-changing job market. To stay up-to-date, I actively engage with industry forums, attend networking events, I recently attending CIPD conference allowing me to connect to HR professional in Northern Ireland.
Why should clients and candidates each consider working with a recruitment consultant for their next role?
Working with a recruitment consultant can be a game-changer for both clients and candidates. For clients, it access to high calibre candidates who might not be actively searching but are a perfect fit for their organisation. For candidates, it means having a dedicated consultant who understands their goals, helps navigate the job market, and connects them to opportunities they might not have found on their own.
What are some in-demand job roles in this area and what top skills are employers looking for?
I’m seeing a lot of movement in the more senior roles, HR Business Partners, Talent Acquisition Specialists, and HR Managers are in high demand. Employers are looking for professionals who can think strategically, handle employee relations and have a solid understanding of HR policies and compliance. Excellent communication, problem-solving, and relationship-building skills are key too. HR is all about understanding people, being an effective advocate, and creating a positive work environment.
What strategies do you use to source and attract top talent?
Sourcing top talent is all about being proactive. I utilise a mix of traditional job boards, social media platforms, and professional networks to connect with talented individuals. Building relationships, engaging in conversations, and understanding their career aspirations helps me attract top talent. And of course, the use of AI which allows me to work at pace.
What are some of your interests and hobbies outside of work?
I live for the weekends – to do nothing but relax! Though its hard with a 7-month-old baby.
Can you share with us a fun fact or unique skill that not many people know about you?
I’m a big Tupac fan – I have a leg piece and arm tattoo
